Do I need to purchase any other manuals for this course?
Yes, you need a current ICD-9, CPT© and HCPCS manual. For the Coding Prep Course and any CPT module, you will need a current year CPT©, Manual. For the ICD-9 course and the complete Prep Course you will need a current year ICD-9 manual. For the Coding Certification Prep Course it is also recommended to have a HCPCS manual as well. The HCPCS module is short, at most four hours, and you might want to borrow a manual if you are not currently working in a medical office.

Why is your Coding Certification Prep Course so much less than competing courses?
First, we do all our own work, both developing the content from our medical coding consulting business and developing and maintaining the Ritecode.com web site. The site was developed by medical coders and is updated by medical coders.
Second: we focus on creating the very best content rather than hiring a staff of programmers who don't know anything about coding.
Third, our students include both corporate clients as well as single mothers getting back into the job market. The economies of scale of the Internet allow us to make a fair profit and offer affordable training to everyone at a reasonable price.

Can you study online anytime or are there fixed class times?
You can study anytime, 7 days a week, twenty-four hours a day. The course is "study at your own pace" and we recommend studying about 1 to 2 hours at a time. There are no "classes to attend." Standard duration is 180 days for each module. In addition, Course Exensions for an additional six months are inexpensive, around 15 – 25% of the original price.

I'm a complete beginner. Should I take your Coding Certification Prep course?
Yes. All Ritecode.com online courses, unless specifically designated as intermediate or difficult, are suitable for novice or beginner students.
We cover basic, intermediate and advanced coding in this course. Just allow yourself a full six-months to study. You also might want to consider any of the Introductory Courses we offer for $12 such as the Insurance and Billing Module.

How long does it take to complete the Coding Certification Prep course?
Generally, the Ritecode.com coding certification prep course can be completed in eighty hours (80 hours). That would be studying four hours per week for twenty-weeks. Standard access is for twenty-six weeks (26 weeks). Obviously the student can study as often as he/she likes, so this is just a ballpark. I recommend not studying more than two hours at a time. Retention is much better with shorter learnings -- and more of them, versus a few, marathon sessions of 4 - 8 hours.
To pass a Coding Certification Exam, such as the AAPC CPC© Exam, I recommend working all the text material, working all the questions (well over 600) and at least ˝ of the Operative Reports. In all there are over 125 Surgical Op Reports. Spending more time, approximately 120 hours and working at least 75% of the Operative Reports is also recommended, especially if the student has not worked as a surgical coder.

Does the Prep Course cover Medicare guidelines and Billing?
Historically, there have not been Medicare or billing questions on the coding certification exams. We have taught Medicare seminars but there are only limited Medicare guidelines on the course.
Medicare guidelines are covered in greater detail in our Billing and Insurance Series. Note that the complete Medicare Guidelines run well over 1400 pages and will vary slightly from Jurisdiction (there are up to fifteen (15) Medicare carriers. Some cover one state and some cover ten or more.)

I'm not sure about spending $349 for the complete Prep course. What do you recommend?
Order the Basic Medical Terminology, Intro to Billing and Coding, Coding Concepts or a group of 12 Op Reports. They are all only $12 each.
If you order the complete Prep course within 30 days, we will subtract the cost of the first course. Another option is to order the Prep course in three "bundles." While a little more expensive than purchasing the entire course, this allows you to space out payments and study the material over a longer period of time. Click on the link below:
